Almost every fall of every year, a few Cal Poly students and a few Cornell students change places. Cal Poly students pay their normal Cal Poly tuition, but they go to Ithaca, New York, and attend Cornell University, while the Cornell students come to Cal Poly. Each student takes courses regularly offered at the host institution and will have all the rights and privileges enjoyed by other students on that campus, as well as being subject to the rules, regulations and discipline of the host institution. At the end of the quarter/semester, the two schools will provide each other, and the student, with transcripts, and appropriate credit will be applied.

Dr. Leanne Berning is the advisor for the Cornell Exchange Program. Interested Cal Poly students, including students from majors other than Dairy Science, should see her during her office hours, or make an appoint to talk to her about a proposed program of study and other details.

Student selection criteria:

  1. The student will normally have completed a minimum of two years of study in their undergraduate major at their home institution.
  2. The student should demonstrate potential to profit from the rich educational opportunity offered through the exchange program.
  3. The student should have a minimum gpa of 2.8. The student should be considerably above average in performance at their respective home institution.
  4. A completed application form should be turned in to Dr. Berning before the end of spring quarter, and earlier would be better.

Participating students shall be responsible for all travel, accommodation and meals; medical insurance and any other medical or associated expenses; textbooks, lab fees, clothing and personal expenses, and all other debts incurred during the course of the year.
