Cuesta Ag Tech Program

How do I apply?

You apply to Cuesta College with their application. You do not apply to Cal Poly. See Cuesta College Counselor Tonya Hardiman (805-546-3162) for information. What are the admissions standards?

Since you are applying to Cuesta College, you must meet Cuesta standards. You do not apply to Cal Poly or CSU or meet their admission requirements.


What are the programs offered?

The eight areas of agriculture offered are: Animal Science, Crop Science, Fruit Science, Dairy Production, Dairy Products Technology, Floral Design, Landscape Horticulture and Horticulture Plant Production. You will need to select one of these areas at the beginning of your program.


Who will be the academic advisor?

You will have two academic advisors, one to assist you at Cuesta College, and an advisor at Cal Poly. Contact the department office at Cal Poly to be connected with an advisor:

What classes do I take at Cal Poly?

You will take all your general education and support courses at Cuesta, no agriculture classes. Discuss the G.E. and support classes with the Cuesta College Counselor, Tonya Hardiman, (805) 546-3162.


Will I have any priority for admission to Cal Poly?>

Generally speaking, the answer is no. You may apply to Cal Poly to the B.S. degree program at any time Cal Poly is accepting applications. You will need to meet all requirements and expectations like any other transfer student.


What are the career opportunities for graduates of the Ag Tech Program?

You are certainly competitive with any other graduate of a two-year program in agriculture. Specific career opportunities and historical job placements should be discussed with your Cal Poly advisor before starting the program.


Are financial aid and scholarships available?

Financial aid is available for qualified students. Applications are due April 15th. Contact the Cuesta College Financial Aid office at (805) 546-3141 for an application.


What are the costs?

Cuesta
Enrollment Fee $26 per unit (Spring 2005, and rising)
Health Fee $13 per semester
Assoc Students Fee $11 per semester
Student Center Fee $1 per unit, $10 maximum per year
Non-resident Tuition $160 per unit plus regular registration fees
Material fees and books varies
Parking $20 per semester ($5 for motorcycles)

Cal Poly (enrollment through Continuing Education/Open University
No additional admission fees
Cal Poly Open University $173 per lecture, seminar, and internship units
Class Registration Fee $173 per activity unit
Late Fee $25 $189 per laboratory, senior project, or independent study unit
Parking $85 per quarter ($20 motorcycle) ($4/day, or $12/week)
